The Shakespeare Center...wait, that's new?!?!

A word from our Artistic Director, Ben Donenberg:

Gentlefriends, when I started Shakespeare Festival/LA in 1986, the name was functional: all we did was free, outdoor summer Shakespeare.

But now, 'Shakespeare Festival/LA' is a misnomer. We have grown leaps and bounds since that first summer, adding nationally recognized youth employment programs and professional development sevices to our ever-expanding repertoire.

The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles isn't much of a change - we are already a vital educational, cultural and employment resource for the youth, artists and educators in our community.

So, as we approached our 25th year, we decided that it was finally time to take Shakespeare's words to heart and hold, as 'twere, the mirror up to nature, and embrace a moniker that truly reflects what our organization does - and, more importantly, what it will continue to do.
